Back to School-Week One!

For the last 5 years I have been dreading the day that I realized Kade was old enough to start school. I had a small preview of how it would feel when Kade started preschool and then when Rennen started too! Oh and those days were tough!
Never was I nervous that Kade was going to cry or that he was not going to love it. He has the best head on his shoulders and he is so very confident that he is fine walking into a classroom and hanging out there for the day. He has no problem making friends, following rules, and learning and he loves every part of it. I am upset and sad because these wonderful years have FLOWN by! Kade is a big boy! He is in real school!
Parent night was the night before meet and greet day. We had a meeting and learned how strict the classroom rules are. His teachers feel this is the year to develop their love of learning and their respect for school. His teacher expects to tell each student something one time and then if they do not follow the rules they loose a "gumball" which is made out of paper. If two gumballs are lost they loose out on playtime and this is big in kindergarten.
Meet and greet came and Kade already knew all about his class and his teacher from visiting the school last year. He walked right to the class and brought all of his supplies-including all of the Spiderman supplies we could find. He was ready and it seemed as though he had done this for the last 5 years of his life! He walked into his class and unpacked the supplies. He toured the class and found his name all over the place. At this point, I realized he is going to be fine and happy.
The first day came and we packed a special lunch. We started our tradition of going to breakfast the first day of school. We went to McDonald's and he ate a few bites. Then off to school! Kade hopped out of the car and he was ready to go. He walked to his class and unpacked like he was shown. Daddy and I said goodbye and he was left in his kindergarten classroom. He was happy and safe and ready to learn.
I am very lucky to see him a few times during the day. I saw him while he was walking in line taking a tour of the school. Boy he looked "cool" ( I am not allowed to call him cute anymore!) I then get to see him when he is in the cafeteria eating lunch. He looked so big in there with all the big kids. I also see him on his way out to recess. I do not stalk him and we "thumb kiss" if we are close enough to each other, but I do love when I see him. I love when he doesn't know that I see him.
Week one- Mornings are tough waking up (for all of us!) Daddy wakes him up and brings him into our bedroom to wake up slowly. I then start talking to him and he gets out of bed when he is finally awake. We leave and then spend a few minutes in my classroom until it is time for the day to start. He can almost walk himself to his own class, but right now I follow him to class and then I leave him at the door after a thumb kiss.
He had a great week overall. He lost one gumball on Tuesday for being too loud and boy did he learn from that. He is so proud to come to me at the end of the day and tell that he didn't loose any gumballs-let's hope this lasts!
After school we have had minor issues. He came to the vault with me in the office and he locked a file cabinet and we could not find the key!!! He was so embarrassed he would not say sorry to the office girls that are good friends of mine. He did say sorry the next day and I would say he learned a lesson! Then Thursday I let him go to another classroom to play with some other teachers kids. I did not know them or what classroom he was going to, but I was not happy when a student came to me to tell me that Kade was grabbing from others and wrestling! I opened the door to find Kade wrestling two other boys!!! WRESTLING at school!!! Not good! I explained to him that the rules in his classroom are for all over the school and he can not touch others and he can NOT wrestle at school. Oh boy!
Tomorrow is Rennen’s first day so I will post pictures of him in the next post. Have a great week!
