KITCHEN!!!!

To make a LONG story short, I will summarize our house drama! It all started in between Hilton Head and NY. The boys were taking a shower at 11:45 pm and then the fire alarm and house alarm started going off. Turns out the drain in the shower started to leak and tripped the alarms. The water was SHUT OFF and we decided to leave for NY as planned and then deal with the leak when we got home.

Pappy decided to go check on the leak and cut out some of the wet drywall. He went into the basement and noticed a dripping sound. He found the leak and went back to the kitchen to find PUDDLES around the dishwasher and the hardwoods soaking it all up. He dried it all up and double checked that the water was shut OFF!! It was!

So then a week later we finally arrived home and braced ourselves for what we were going to see. Well, we unlocked the door to find PUDDLES of water all over the kitchen! In front of the dishwasher, the sink, the fridge, the stove, the oven, under the counter tops, the kitchen table, AND the basement stairs. So like I said, ALL over the kitchen! The water even traveled into the family room and damaged the carpet and the baseboards. The basement had puddles all over from the water dripping from the ceiling too! YUCK!

Insurance came the next morning and declared our kitchen a major disaster and they took action right away. An hour later we had a plumber and a mitigation team with fans and dehumidifiers! The next day we had appliance checkers and a construction team to remove the floor and the cabinets. The mitigation team came again and added more fans and dehumidifiers. Our kitchen and basement are big wind tunnels and sound like a plane is about to take off.

At this current moment, we have a mess! No floors, no sink, and no counter tops in part of the kitchen. Our goal for the rest of this week is to dry out and figure out how this all happened with the WATER SHUT OFF and how it happened twice! After we are dried out a team will come in and remove the rest of the cabinets and the floor. Then we will start repair.

We have a long road ahead of us and still have a mystery on our hands. All damages are repairable and we are going to be giving someone some great business. In this economy, it will be great to be offering work to construction people!

Enjoy the pics! I will keep you guys posted. Don't mind the mess, I cleaned and then the dust settled again! Yuck!

This is what we found when we got home!

This is Day One of Dry Out!

Day Two! Dry out and removal!

After everything is dry, insurance will come back out and decide what to do. At that point we can start to plan what we need to do to make our house perfect again!
